TORY heavy hitters including David Cameron and Boris Johnson will be coming to Wales ahead of May’s Assembly election, it has been announced.

During a press conference this morning Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies was asked if he would invite the Mayor of London to Wales during the Assembly election campaign given they had both announced they would vote for the UK to leave the European Union.

Mr Davies replied: “He is coming.

“And he will be a big part of it, as will very many other people connected with the Conservative Party at the very top – David Cameron, George Osborne, Theresa May.

“The list could go on.”

Both Mr Johnson and Mr Davies announced they will defy the Conservative Party’s official line and vote for the UK to leave the EU following the announcement at the weekend that the long-awaited referendum on the issue will be held on Thursday, June 23.

Also speaking during this morning's press conference, Mr Davies said he would not campaign on the EU until after the Assembly election on Thursday, May 5, saying there would be “plenty of opportunity” to engage with the issue in the seven weeks between the two votes.

"What we've got to focus on in the next 70 odd days is health, education, economy, local government,” he said. “Because if you miss that opportunity to change things here in Wales and secure the real change Wales needs then you won't get the second chance after May 5."

The dates when the Mayor of London or his Tory colleagues will be visiting Wales have not yet been announced.
