WELSH National Opera's orchestra (WNO) hit Cardiff's St David's Hall this weekend with a fantastic family concert.

Fronted by the notorious singer from the Gocompare television adverts, Wynne Evans, the 70-strong orchestra delighted the family crowd with a blend of film scores, such as James Bond and Star Wars, and famous classical pieces such as William Tell Overture.

The concert was highly interactive, with the youngsters (all with their glow-in-the-dark bow ties) in the crowd invited to guess the instruments, battle each other for the loudest 'good afternoon' and even go up on stage to have a go at conducting the orchestra themselves. There were choirs from two primary schools plus the WNO Youth Opera, who each took turns to perform during the interval, backed by the orchestra.

Undoubtedly the highlight for the children was the performance of the hit Disney film Frozen's score, even featuring an appearance by the snowman character, Olaf.

For the adults, we couldn't help but be impressed by the stellar musicianship. The awe-inspiring, powerful vocals were something to behold, and backed by the stunning orchestra, made for a wonderful afternoon.

The show ended on a patriotic note with a Welsh music medley, featuring tenor Wynne Evans at his absolute best, performing Bread of Heaven. A superb concert.
