CHEPSTOW was abuzz with walkers on the first day of its annual walking festival yesterday despite changeable weather.

The Chepstow Walking Festival is organised by town group Chepstow Walkers are Welcome.

Its secretary Helen Kenneally, who walked to Llandogo and the Wye Valley Arts Centre, said: “It’s been fantastic. We had one shower and then beautiful sunshine for the rest of the walk.

“We had two Americans on our walk. They have seen the Walking Festival and they have come down for a few days and they loved it. They didn’t realise the Wye Valley was so beautiful.”

More than 500 walkers will come to Monmouthshire to undertake challenges around Chepstow and the wider Wye Valley before the festival finishes on Sunday.

Other walkers explored areas around Wentwood, St Arvans, Trellech and Llandogo yesterday. Other excursions will today take in Tintern and Tidenham, while another suitable for parents and children will take place at Chepstow Racecourse in association with the Children’s Hub and Info for Parents (CHIP) group.
