A MEMORIAL service commemorating the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915, which saw hundreds of soldiers from Gwent die, will be held in Newport next month.
The Royal Welsh Comrades Association, City of Newport Branch will host the service to commemorate the Stand of the Three Battalions of the Monmouthshire Regiment at the Battle of Frezenberg on May 8 1915.
A new Memorial was dedicated to the Monmouthshire Regiment consisting of eight May trees and a memorial plaque to commemorate the 100th anniversary at Blaina Wharf, Newport on May 8, 2015.
A new monument to the 81 Newport soldiers killed in the battle was unveiled at the junction of Stow Hill and School Lane for the hundredth anniversary last year and the Monmouthshire Regiment Memorial on the site was also refurbished and rededicated.
All Branches of ex-service organisations and their standard bearers are invited to the service.
Light refreshments will be provided, following the parade, at the Baneswell Social Club on Stow Hill.
The service will be held at 4pm in St. Woolos Cathedral, Newport on May 8.
