THE mother of a brave Newport girl who died following a battle with cancer will take on Good Morning Britain’s Tough Mums challenge this month.

Sarah Fussell, from Allt-yr-yn, will tackle the 5km obstacle course on ITV in memory of her daughter, Libby, who died in August.

Libby, 12, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour, which was made up of a combination of two different types of cancer, in October, 2014.

While in hospital, the St Joseph’s pupil humbled Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, boxing great Joe Calzaghe and Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton with her beaming smile.

Mrs Fussell said she decided to sign up for the muddy challenge as a way of remembering her daughter and to help raise money for the Dreams and Wishes charity.

She said: “We’ve had so much support from charities and family and friends and that’s how we’ve been able to get through this.

“We’re a happy family and we know Libby wouldn’t want us to be miserable. We just get up every morning and look forward to nice things happening.

“I posted a photo about the challenge on the Smile With Libby Facebook page and people were so excited to see a photo of Libby because I hadn’t posted on it in a while.”

Mrs Fussell was interviewed by ITV's producers in Bristol last week and snippets of Libby’s story will be aired in the coming weeks.

She says she is looking forward to joining 100 other mums, including singer Sinitta and presenter Julia Bradbury, for the obstacle course in the Grantham countryside on Wednesday, May 18.

She said: “I’ll start off looking all glamorous and then the mud will be all over. I think Libby would think it was hysterical.

“I didn’t tell my girls or Jay [husband, Jason] I was entering. They were like, ‘Really?’ They know I’m mad but they think I’m even madder now.”

Mrs Fussell has already raised more than £950 for Dreams and Wishes as part of the challenge. To donate, visit justgiving.com/Sarah-Fussell
