FOUR thousand people flocked to Abergavenny for the annual Toy and Train Fair on Monday.

The popular event, now in its thirteenth year and held in the town’s historic Market Hall and on Cross Street, attracted families and collectors of miniature cars and trains and fans of classic cars, buses, motorbikes and tractors.

Visitors to the fair also enjoyed browsing stalls displaying smaller toys and models, match-stick displays and exhibitions as well as a fairground ride and face-painting for children.

Cross Street was decorated with full-sized vintage buses and tractors that have been lovingly restored and transported to the town especially for the event, organised by Monmouthshire council.

Market and facilities supervisor, Sharon Hutchinson who organised the event for the first time said: “Even though it was raining it was a fantastic day, attracting around 4,000 visitors.”

“The atmosphere was great and there was plenty to see from model trains to match-stick displays.”

“We are now planning to hold a Christmas toy fair in December,” she added.
