TWO newly qualified motorists will be disqualified after being caught driving 100 mph and 109 mph in Newport.

Gwent Police said they will be 'paying particular attention' to the problem of anti-social driving and excessive speeds after received reports of occurrences on the SDR and surrounding roads.

Recently, they have caught a motorist going 109 mph just 10 hours after passing their test.

Officers then caught a second driver who’d only had their licence for five months going at 100 mph.

Inspector Matthew Havard said: ''If you ignore the speed restrictions or drive in an anti-social manner we will stop you and we will deal with any offences.

"The safety of road users and pedestrians is paramount."

He added: "These particular offenders have shown no regard to any other road user’s safety and are putting lives at risk.

"They will be disqualified from driving. Think about what that would mean for you.''
