A PONTYPOOL school is set to transform itself into an American summer camp battleground as its students will take to the stage with a Disney musical extravaganza.

Pupils from St Alban's RC High School will be performing ‘Camp Rock’, based on the 2008 film starring Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers in the lead roles.

While the American superstars will not be making the trip to Torfaen for the three performances, St Alban's students from years seven to nine will be thrust into the limelight.

Year 12 students and marketing officers Alice Evans and Lauren Harris, both 17, are involved in the show’s marketing roles.

Alice said: “All the students taking part are aged 11 to 14 and they will be acting, singing and dancing in the show.

“Although it is a Disney channel show, it is really enjoyable and there’s something for adults too. There’s a lot for all ages.”

The performance is directed by drama and media teacher Cayte McCarthy, with music teacher Sara Chewins working as the musical director and choreography aided by Thea Simons and year 13 student Rebecca Gregory as the show’s assistant choreographer.

“There’s a good mix of songs throughout the show so it’s not just something for younger audiences,” said Lauren.

There are three shows, each starting at 7pm, doors open at 6.30pm, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with all performances taking place at the Pontypool school.
