A MONMOUTHSHIRE 75-year-old will be teaching the art of spinning at a festival to celebrate talented over 70's.

Elizabeth Anne Lee, from Monmouth, will be teaching spinning as part of a one day festival, GrandFest in London on June 5. The festival presented by Royal Voluntary Service is now in its second year and celebrates the craft skills of talented older people. Taking place in Spitalfields, GrandMakers, older people, all over 70-years-old, will run master classes to pass on the heritage skills they have learnt and perfected over the years to the younger generation.

As President of Royal Voluntary Service, The Duchess of Cornwall recently met all of the talented GrandMakers at the launch of GrandFest 2016.

Ms Lee is a dedicated volunteer for Royal Voluntary Service and helps deliver meals on wheels in the area. In her spare time she loves to spin and experiment with different types of wool.

She began spinning on sheep’s wool, but likes to challenge herself on alpaca wool, which she brought back from Peru three years ago.

She said: “Spinning is a great form of meditation and it is interesting to learn how to make beautiful yarns. I am really excited to be teaching this ancient culture at GrandFest; so come along to my masterclass where you can join in, as I show you how to turn wool into yarn which can then be woven into fabric.”
