NEWPORT'S Kathleen Jenkins narrowly missed out on a place as a wildcard act in tomorrow night's Britain's Got Talent final after missing out on a public vote.

The 25-year-old was one of several acts that placed third in their respective semi-finals prior to last night's live show.

Out of five acts, two would progress to the Grand Final with the public voting for one act and the show judges the other.

After a short voting period, it was revealed that the public had voted to send dog handler Trip Hazard through.

Meanwhile judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon decided to vote for married ballet couple Shannon and Peter.

It brings an end to Ms Jenkins' journey from Newport to the nation's silver screens, but the cleaner who hails from Corporation Road is happy to have had the chance to compete.

Speaking from North Wales, where she is visiting family, Ms Jenkins said, "It's been a great experience, I've enjoyed every minute of it.

"I'm so grateful for all of the support from everyone back home."

Ms Jenkins was tipped by some in the media as 'the next Susan Boyle', who surprised many with her unexpected voice during 2009's contest.

Her rendition of the Rolling Stones' 'Wild Horses' last month led to a standing ovation from all four judges and everyone in the studio audience, including dad Peter and husband Shaun Williams.

Following her memorable debut, Peter, who used to own a karaoke bar at the Orb Club on Jenkins Street, had spoke of his pride for his daughter.

One of Ms Jenkins' personal highlights during her time on the show was getting to watch her performance at Gilligan's pub in Newport, with friends and family, including mother Noreen.

She added: "I also enjoyed having someone to do my hair and makeup during the show."

While she is currently enjoying spending some time with her family, Ms Jenkins has hopes that her stint on the show could still change her fortunes.

She said: "Hopefully it's just a nice little stepping stone to go and do something in the near future.

"Of course I'm hoping to get myself out there but for the moment I just want to spend time with my family."
