ONE of Paolo Nutini’s biggest fans will be among 2,000 concertgoers descending on Newport for the singer’s gig in aid of a bereaved teenager.

Alison Naulls, 52, from Norwich, will attend the gig along with around 60 others from the Paolo Everyday Mad Nutters’ Facebook group after they were moved by 13-year-old Ieuan Joel’s story.

Ieuan’s mother, Bevlee Jones, “who loved everything” about the Scottish performer, died suddenly at the age of just 34 on March 8 after going to bed the previous night.

Ieuan asked the Last Request singer to perform at his mother’s funeral and while he was unable to make it, Mr Nutini will instead play a memorial concert at the Newport Centre on July 20.

Although it’s the Scottish performer’s only gig this year, Mrs Naulls said it was important that travelling fans remember the poignant reason behind it.

She said: “It’s important, particularly on the day, and I’ve stressed this, that we don’t lose sight of why we’re there.

“This woman was like us. She was a big fan and this concert is to celebrate her life, her love of Paolo Nutini and to support her young child and his future.”

Mrs Naulls, who has never been to Newport, has already booked her train ticket and accommodation for the gig.

Having previously met Mr Nutini, and seen him four times, the mother-of-two is even considering getting lyrics from the singer’s song One Day tattooed on her body before the concert.

She said that members from the Paolo Everyday Mad Nutters’ Facebook group are so excited that they have already agreed to meet up in Newport four hours before the concert.

She said: “Since we heard that he was doing the gig, the momentum has gone sky high and people are very excited.

“We’ve talked about asking him to come back with us all to the Queen’s Hotel for a post-gig knees up but I don’t know if he’ll be that brave.”
