NEWPORT school pupils held a den building fun day yesterday to raise money for Save the Children.

Pupils at Millbrook Primary in Bettws, took part in the charity’s Den Day fundraiser which saw children across the UK join celebrity supporters such as Welsh actor Luke Evans and Jon Snow in unleashing their creativity for a good cause.

The students donated money to take part helping to raise money to help Save the Children provide aid for children around the world who may not have a safe place to sleep or play.

Carys Ennis, aged 5 said: “We’ve created our den using sticks and a green cover and we’ve decorated it with flowers and made a doorbell. It’s cosy inside.”

Parent Sarah Elliott who enjoyed painting a den with her two children, Joel, 4 and Evie, 2 added: “Children should understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have a home and a safe place to sleep at night.”

Millbrook Primary’s Headteacher, Lindsey Watkins said she liked seeing everyone working together.

She said: “Den Day is a fantastic opportunity to teach children about important global issues through a creative learning activity.

“It was a really memorable learning adventure for everyone involved.”

Save the Children UK’s Head of Fundraising Campaigns, Vicky Fallon said that however much the children raised will be donated to help others around the world.

“The money they raise could provide other children with the things they need to grow up healthy and happy, like a safe place to shelter,” she said.
