FIREFIGHTERS were called to a series of incidents in Newport and elsewhere in Gwent on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Crews from Blaenavon and Abertillery were called to a fire on the ground floor of a house in Natyglo, near Brynmawr, at about 5.55pm on Saturday, June 25.

They used four breathing apparatus, a hosereel and a safety jet to put out the flames.

It is not known how the fire was caused.

Crews from Maindee and Malpas were also called to a fire in the bedroom of a house in Lliswerry, Newport, at about 6.05pm the same evening.

They used two hosereels to put out the fire, which it is believed is being treated as arson.

At just after midnight this morning firefighters were called to assist engineers from Wales and West Utilities to reports of a gas leak at a house in Blackwood.

The crew used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to help the engineers make the leak safe.

Firefighters from Maindee were called to Ringland Primary School, Dunstable Road, Newport, at about 7.40am this morning after a gazebo in a field was set on fire.

The crew put out the flames using a hosereel.
