A MAN has been arrested after two people were reportedly robbed at knifepoint near the Old Green Roundabout in Newport.
The most recent is reported to have happened yesterday (Tuesday) at around 8.00am when a woman was allegedly approached by a man who threatened her with a knife and stole her belongings.
On Monday at around 10.30pm on Monday it was reported that a man was also approached by another man who threatened him with a knife and stole a quantity of money.
A 27-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He is currently being held in police custody pending further investigation. Gwent Police say they are not looking for anyone else at this time in connection with the incidents, which police believe are linked.
Newport city centre Inspector for Gwent Police Kevin Warren said: "Our priority is to minimise the risk to public and keep them safe at all times", adding: "We will continue to respond to all crime and anti-social behaviour within Newport to maintain public safety."
