A NEWPORT chef is hoping for another successful food festival in Bassaleg, which will also be hosting arts and crafts stalls this time around.

Following on from previous successful food festivals Steve White, head chef at Ruperra Arms, has organised a food and crafts festival with a rural market.

The festival will be held at the Graig Community Hall and the surrounding area in Bassaleg on Saturday, July 30 from 11am to 6pm. Musicians will be playing inside the hall and anyone who wants to take part in the open mic event is welcome.

Mr White said: "The Bassaleg folk and food festival was so successful we're trying to do a few more events.

"On the first event we were hoping for 200 people and 3,500 people turned up. In April around 2,000 people came."

He added: "It's a big community event and family friendly environment. It's great to get the whole community involved.

"The Big Cheese is on the same weekend but people can come to us first and then go to the Big Cheese on the Sunday."

There will be zumba classes, children's play area, all day live music, around 35 to 40 stalls along with Mojo cocktail pop up bar. There will also be acrobatics and stilt walkers.

Mr White said he will providing a cooking demonstration and there will be a variety of cuisines on offer from crepes to Asian food. The Ruperra Arms will have a bar in the car park and will create a lounge area.

The event will be free to enter.
