THERE may be a new Banksy in Newport as interesting graffiti has started popping up across the city.
The two latest pieces which appeared in Cardiff Road in Maesglas and Commercial Road have similarities to the England-based graffiti artist’s style.
Banksy is known for his satirical and stencilled art work, often using humour, politics and everyday situations.
The Commercial Road piece shows particularly similarity to the artist, as it shows a policeman drawing a picture of the Looney Tunes character, Porky Pig.
The second piece of work in Maesglas depicted a hooded figure with his face covered and no visible features, but has now been painted over by the Edge Cleaning Company.
Shirley Griffiths, who runs Art School Wales in Risca and Newport, has said she isn't fond of graffiti, unless it is commissioned.
She said: "I am not a big fan of Banksy style graffiti.
"There are examples of graffiti in Bristol that is outstanding and that has been commissioned.
"I feel if there is graffiti it should be sympathetic to the environment and not really satirical."
