THE recent terror attacks in France and Germany with their quick armed-response time only highlight the fact that the UK hasn’t got the capability and speed of those countries if something similar or worse were to happen.
Would I spend millions on renewing Trident, the answer is a big no. However I would use that money to increase staffing levels in the NHS, increase our military numbers with more boots on the ground and not make any more redundancies. Lastly I would create a national special quick armed-response division with a unit in every major city.
This wouldn’t replace what we have but strengthen and enhance the current capabilities. This division should be part of an anti-terrorism department, a sort of homeland security.
