YEAR 8 and 9 science pupils at Barry Comprehensive School welcomed the RAF Engineering Education Roadshow to school recently.
Among many of the activities students were shown a demonstration of a mini jet engine. The tiny jet engine, which was safely situated outside, was incredibly loud.
A ball and air blower demonstrated the Coanda effect, which describes how air flows around objects. The team explained how the wings on a plane use this effect to generate lift.
A drone also took to the air inside the school hall, much to the delight of the audience.
As well as being exciting and entertaining, the roadshow helped students to apply their science knowledge in a practical way and made them aware of potential careers in science and engineering.
Barry Comprehensive School thanked the RAF team for the roadshow.
