A TORFAEN charity founder has appealed for volunteers as he says the charity is struggling to run efficiently.

Lee Williams is one of the founders of 1 Step At A Time, a charity which helps people in Newport and Torfaen who have been rehomed that may need support and assistance.

Mr Williams, of Cwmbran, said he loves being part of 1 Step and helping others, but at the moment there has been a lot of difficulty with storage space and volunteers.

He said: “We need support as it is such a good thing we are doing.

“We have lots of stuff in storage but we are coming to a standstill as it is very full now and we need volunteers to help us out.”

The charity was founded in September last year, and was made an official charity earlier this year in May.

It is mainly run by founder Lee Williams along with staff members Tim Chaytor-Jackson and Verity Davies, as well as volunteers who help out with sorting out the storage areas and work alongside the team.

The team pick up leftover or spare items such as mattresses, microwaves, blow-up beds and other things from members of the public.

“The public are fantastic with donations, but we’ve recently lost our van driver due to him seeking other work and it’s been difficult with our team being fairly small,” said Mr Williams.

“Our storage area is starting to fill up and it’s getting to that stage now where soon we won’t be able to pick up anything as it will have nowhere to go.”

Mr Williams has asked members of the public to come forward and help 1 Step At A Time, either by volunteering or by helping them to seek a new storage space for their equipment.
