A BLAENAU Gwent car sales business was targeted in an arson attack which also saw 17 cars damaged to tune of an estimated £80,000.

CCTV captured the overnight incident at Dragon Car Sales in Brynmawr. The owners of the family owned business have been left perplexed by the attack which they estimate caused more than £80,000 worth of damage.

Co-owner Matt Taylor, 28, has posted an offer of a £5,000 reward for anyone who can the police with information that leads to a prosecution.

The company, which has been running for just over a year, was targeted on Monday, August 8 after someone cut through a fence to gain access.

CCTV footage appears to show two men, both wearing hoodies with one also sporting a black mask, are seen to be walking around the premises.

As well as damage being caused to 17 cars, the business's car sales office, sited in a temporary building made out of wood, was also set on fire.

Mr Taylor, who runs the business with his brother, said it will probably cost around £80,000 to repair the damage to the cars and the office.

He said: “The office is a wooden structure so it will be completely knocked down and rebuilt because of the damage the fire caused.

“So many cars are damaged and it will probably cost £2,000 per car, times that by 17 and there we go.

“We are a family owned business and all have children. All we want to do is provide for them without people trying to destroy our livelihoods.”

Mr Taylor, of Abertillery, said it was himself and the other business owner’s idea to put the £5,000 reward out in a hope to help the police with their investigations.

“It might not do anything but we’re hoping they are caught soon. The reward shows just how angry we are," he said.

“We’re still open, even though the scratched cars are still on our forecourt, because we have to be.”

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said an investigation into the fire and damage to cars was still ongoing.

She said: "We’re investigating the damage of 17 cars and a fire at the portacabin sales office of Dragon Car Sales on Old Blaina Road, Brynmawr.

"The incident was recorded at 11.56pm when an officer came across the fire and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information about the fire and damage is asked to call 101 quoting log 755 08/08/16 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
