A SEVENTY-three-year-old woman from Newport has died after being hit by a bus in Newport.
Police, the ambulance service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene in Bridge Street near the Queen's Hotel at around 3pm.
The incident involved a bus and a female pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently in police custody.
Bridge Street remains closed that this time.
Anyone with information relating to the collision is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 307 of 23/09/2016.
Our reporter on the scene said passers-by assisted the initial responders to clear the scene and called emergency services.
