MORE than 30 people took part in a memory walk in Caldicot, raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The annual walk, which was organised by the walking group Chepstow Walkers are Welcome, was a two miles trek which took place around Caldicot Castle.

People of all ages joined in the walk, which has raised more than £300 for Alzheimer’s Research so far.

Helen Kenneally, secretary for Chepstow Walkers are Welcome, said: “We’ve raised about the same amount as last year and we do hope to raise more each year.

“We also hope to make it bigger each year and I feel really pleased to have raised the money.

“Most of the people who attended the walk came because they were in some way affected by Alzheimer’s or they knew someone with it. It’s a very important topic at the moment and is in the news a lot.”

Mrs Kenneally is hoping to start up another walk with the group in the next year which will actually be for people who suffer with Alzheimer’s.

She said: “It would be great to get a walk going for them and it would be good for them physically as well as mentally.

“If they walk around places where they used to go when they were younger it might spark a happy memory for them.”
