CHILDREN from a Caldicot School recently won a poster competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Severn Bridge.

Three posters from Castle Park Primary School were successful in two categories of The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Wales Cymru and South West poster competition.

The posters were voted for by an international judging panel including Jim Mawson (American Bridge), Trish Johnson (Clifton Suspension Bridge) and Kieren Couch (CORMAC Ltd).

Angel Ke was the Key Stage 2 winner and was presented with a Kindle Fire plus Lego by ICE Wales Cymru Director Keith Jones and Chairman David Rowlands at a special school assembly on Monday.

Ellie-Rose Whittaker, Max Philpot, won Lego packs for the Key Stage 2 Runners Up for their joint effort on one poster, and Amy Ke and Freya Nunnick also won Lego packs for the Key Stage 1 Runners Up for their joint effort on another poster.

Head teacher of Castle Park Primary Kay Ford said: “We felt it was important to take part in the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Severn Bridge.

“The school is relatively close to the Severn Bridge and many families use it regularly. Many pupils wanted to take part in the competition and the school is very proud of all who entered.

"However we are overwhelmed and delighted to learn some of our pupils were runners up and the overall winner also came from the school. It is a fabulous achievement for the pupils and Castle Park.”
