AN ABERCARN woman has raised more than £1,000 having her hair shaved off in support of her husband who has cancer.

Angela Williams dyed her hair turquoise in honour of the colon cancer ribbon colour a few weeks before having her head shaved in front of friends and colleagues earlier his month.

Her husband Steve was diagnosed last year and missed the big event as he had an appointment with the doctors before his next operation.

The head shave took place at 1pm in Davis & Sons Estate Agents on Tredegar Street in Risca on Friday September 16 with all donations going towards Cancer Research Wales.

Mrs Williams, said: “My husband thinks I’m a bit mad for doing it and I don’t think he can quite believe it but I said I was going to do it so there was no backing out. What’s been really nice is all the people that have popped into the branch and donated even though we don’t know them.”

Her husband Steve has already had two rounds of chemotherapy, one of radio therapy and an operation in February. He is due to have another one at the end of the month.

Mrs Williams added: “The treatments he's had thanks to Velindre have been outstanding whereas I have felt a bit useless so it’s been a chance for me to give something back and show how much I appreciate all that they have done.

“The amazing thing is how few people even realized he was ill and had no idea he had cancer. He still looks really well and something like colon cancer can hideaway, so it has really helped raise awareness of the cancer.”

The two have been married for 30 years.
