Gwent Police have said the driver of the car, who was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales earlier, has died.

The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on Garn Yr Erw, near Blaenavon, today.

"The collision, which occurred at about 12:15pm, involved a Silver Renault Megane and an Iveco Flatbed Lorry.

"The driver of the Renault Megane, a local man aged 26, was killed and the driver of the lorry received minor injuries.

"The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers.

"Could anyone with information please contact Gwent Police on 101 and quote incident 171 of the 30th September 2016."

A man in a serious condition has been airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Services said: "We were called at about 12.20pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry on Garn Road, Blaenavon.

“The Wales Air Ambulance, three emergency ambulances and a rapid response vehicle are currently in attendance at the scene.”

UPDATE: 1.25pm

THE air ambulance has been called following a crash on the road between Blaenavon and Brynmawr.

One person is being treated at the scene by paramedics following the crash on the B4246 involving a van and a car. No-one is reported to be trapped in either of the vehicles.

Firefighters from Ebbw Vale, Blaenavn and Brynmawr were called at 12.32pm and are still at scene. The air ambulance landed at 12.45pm.
