NEWPORT Scouts will celebrate their hundredth birthday next weekend - and they are inviting past scouts and cubs to join them.

The 6th Newport Scouts are staging a party to mark their birthday on Saturday, from 1pm till 6pm at their scout hut.

Newport scout leader Cheryl Martin said: “This a momentous time and we intend to mark this wonderful anniversary with a party to remember.

"We’ve invited as many former 6th Newport Scouts as we can to the event and welcome any others that we’ve missed out to come along on the day.

“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ve gathered a collection of photos from over the years and on the day we will be showcasing these pictures from across the decades."

Entry to the party is free and they'll be holding a raffle, selling food, refreshments and some small gifts to help raise funds.

Ms Martin said: “The 6th Newport started out under a few other names and in various locations in St Julian’s, including Orchard Lane, before moving to our current hut in the 70’s.

"We have a rich history showcasing scouting at its best, working in the community and for the benefit of the community.

"One of our lesser known stories includes the involvement of some of our scout leaders as Auxiliaries (British Resistance) during the Second World War.

"We’re keen to see any pictures and memorabilia, and would love to take copies which can be displayed on our road map through the 100 years. “
