TRIBUTE acts from all around the country will be taking to the stage in Newport to raise funds for a well-known Tom Jones impersonator who has undergone a life saving heart operation.

Acts from Lady Ga Ga to Michael Jackson have come together to raise money for John Prescott, 58, and the British Heart Foundation.

The concert on October 25 at the Neon on Clarence Place, was organised to raise money towards £150,000 needed for an operation for Mr Prescott who has been battling heart failure.

Following his operation the singer now needs a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) which is a kind of artificial heart pump sometimes given to people on the waiting list for a heart transplant.

The long-term device is not routinely funded by NHS Wales and patients have to apply for funding through the Individual Patient Funding Request (IPFR) process.

Mr Prescott, of Rhos-on-Sea who has performed at venues across the UK including the Celtic Manor Resort and on promotional videos for the BBC's Six Nations coverage, was initially turned down but this week he received the news that funding had been granted and the operation went ahead on Tuesday.

Richard Tiley, of All Stars Entertainment Agency, who organised the concert, said: "John is one of the best Tom Jones acts. He's really down to earth guy who would help anybody - he himself has done a number of shows to raise money for charity.

"We just want to do as much as we can for him and his family. When I contacted the acts after we heard John had the operation they were all so supportive and wanted to carry on with the concert in aid of John.

"He's been out of work for 18-months and all the acts want to raise money to help him and his family. It puts your faith back in show business."

He added: "John still needs a new heart but this will keep him alive. His doctors told him he was on borrowed time."

The acts include Newport's Tom Jones Robb Dee, Chantelle Tiley as Celine Dion and Richard Tiley as Robbie Williams, both of Newbridge, Rory Jackson as Michael Jackson, Adele J'adele, Rob Stevens as Meat Loaf, Sara Jones as Tina Turner, along with Christiane Rae as Lionel Richie.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the concert starts at 7.30pm. Entry is £5 on the door.
