A FISHING enthusiast drowned after falling into a reservoir, an inquest has heard.
Tyler James Cook, aged 20, of Torfaen, died after falling into a reservoir on May 20.
The Gwent Coroner's Court, sitting in Newport, heard Mr Cook had a day off on May 20 and went fishing at Blaen Bran Reservoir in Cwmbran.
It also heard the former West Monmouth School pupil had recently moved in with his long-term girlfriend, Nadine White, who became worried when Mr Cook didn't pick her up after work that afternoon.
His father, David Cook went to the reservoir to look for him and found his fishing equipment by the side of the reservoir, it was also said in the inquest.
He also noticed fingerprint marks which looked like somebody had tried to climb out of the water onto the bank. His son's car was located parked at the reservoir.
Mr Cook said his son was a 'limited swimmer' and if he had fallen in he could have 'panicked.'
The emergency services were called and a search of the reservoir was carried out.
Mr Cook's body was found later that evening and his family were informed.
A post-mortem examination carried out by a consultant pathologist concluded the cause of death was as a result of drowning.
Coroner Wendy James recorded a verdict of accidental death. She said no one knows for certain what happened to Mr Cook but it appears that he fell in the water accidentally.
