Newport Bus have confirmed there have been three separate incidents of buses being damaged after stones were thrown at them. Two of the incidents were in Malpas and a third in Ringland.

A spokeswoman for Newport Bus said a window was smashed on one bus and a glass door panel shattered on another in two separate incidents on Malpas Road on Sunday afternoon as youths were throwing objects at passing traffic. 

She also confirmed that on Sunday evening at approximately 9.30pm a window was smashed by youths who were throwing objects at the bus when it went into Ringland.

 No one was hurt in any of the incidents, but she added: "Always our main concern is for the safety of our staff and passengers.  The youths throwing  objects at the buses need to understand the consequences of their actions and the potential injuries that these may cause."

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Newport East, Sarah Davies said: “This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are working hard to protect our communities and we will be taking a zero tolerance approach to anyone putting the safety of others in jeopardy. Officers will be patrolling the area and anyone found causing anti-social behaviour will be dealt with robustly”.

Gwent Police ask that anyone experiencing any anti-social behaviour, report it by calling 101, or in the event of an emergency to always call 999.

TWO bus windows were smashed when youths threw stones at the passing vehicles.

According to Newport Bus, two buses had their windows shattered by stones thrown by a group of teenagers in Malpas Road near the Wickes store.

A spokesman for Newport Bus said: “If this continues bus services in this area will be removed due to safety concerns for our staff and passengers”.
