A CHRISTMAS shoebox appeal has been launched in Gwent to provide rescue animals with festive treats.
The appeal – run by a group of animal lovers, most of whom have businesses linked to looking after or caring for pets – is asking people to fill shoeboxes with tasty treats or other presents for dogs, cats and rabbits. These will then be distributed to rescue shelters in South Wales.
“We thought it would be a nice idea to do an appeal for animals, and we’ve been thinking of all the rescue animals that would not necessarily be considered, like those in pounds,” said Sarah Lavender, one of the organisers, from Newport.
A Facebook page has been set up, and boxes are already being filled. Donations must be in no later than Monday, December 5.
Anyone wishing to take part can make contact through the page – at facebook.com/groups/doggyshoebox
Boxes, which can be collected or delivered to a sponsor, will go to Newport City Dogs Home, Mittens cat rescue, and Friends of the Animals RCT.
