NEWPORT Cathedral became a centre of the arts over the weekend with one of the city’s most renowned groups putting on a special display.

From 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday, the East Side Art Club displayed their members work with a variety from modern abstract to traditional landscapes of scenes ranging from Gwent to Peru.

More than 200 people attended with more than half a dozen items being sold to the public.

Group member Alison Shuttleworth, said: “It went very well and we had a huge number of people come to enjoy the art, which brought some beauty and new light into the cathedral.

“A lot of us do our work in isolation so to share others efforts and see it all on display was very special.”
