A NEWPORT family are trying to raise awareness of a rare condition by setting up a £2 Facebook challenge.

Kelly Horton and her family are trying to get people to donate £2 to their Justgiving page to help raise as much money as possible for Turner Syndrome and share the link to it on Facebook.

The syndrome only affects one in 2,000 women and can lead to a wide range of issues, including infertility and a shortness in height.

Mrs Horton’s daughter, Kara-Jay Horton, now six-years-old, was diagnosed with Turner Syndrome just before her third birthday, and the family had to research the syndrome as they had no idea what it was. “I remember going home and I looked at everything I could find,” Mrs Horton said.

“It was quite scary as there are so many potential health problems that come with the syndrome.”

The family are currently holding the £2 challenge to help raise money for the only Turner Syndrome charity: the Turner Syndrome Support Society.

Her step-grandad, Darren Rice, organises most of the fundraising events for the charity, and has gathered support from the Welsh Rugby Team and Newport County.

Mr Rice said: “It’s great to get both teams behind us.” We’re hoping to raise as much money as possible and it will raise awareness too.

“The challenge is to share it on Facebook to as many people as possible. If everyone could donate it would be great and we would raise a lot for the charity.”
