CAERLEON’S Liberal Democrats are distributing surveys which are designed to trick people into believing they come from Newport City Council or the Labour Party, the Secretary of Caerleon’s Labour branch has said.

The Lib Dems have said that, in the leaflet, it says it comes from them and that they’re not giving information, but asking for people’s opinions.

Max Perkins, branch secretary of Caerleon’s Labour Party, said: “Newport Liberal Democrats have been distributing questionnaires in Caerleon which are underhand and deceptive.

"The mother of one of our ward members who lives in a sheltered complex for elderly people received a leaflet through the door using a widely recognised Labour print format and design – Neo Sans Font with red lettering.

"It in no way resembled the Liberal Democrats’ usual style.

"It seems the local Lib Dems are so ashamed of their own name and party brand in Newport that they are trying to hide their true colours from local residents.

“Why don’t they have the guts to put their logo on this survey? What are they trying to hide from local residents?”

Paul Halliday, Lib Dem AM candidate for Newport East, said: “It clearly says it’s a Lib Dem leaflet. Besides, it is a survey and it’s not giving any information.

"We're asking for people's opinion - only by listening we can know what their concerns are.

“Opposition parties should spend more time listening to residents rather than picking political points.”
