TWO young girls are in a critical but stable condition after the crash on Tuesday.

A 33-year-old man, also from the Newport who had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information is asked to call 101 quoting log number 455 6/12/16.

TWO young girls remain in critical condition after a three vehicle crash in Newport.

Emergency services were called to the scene along Usk Way at around 7.15pm on Tuesday evening.

Road closures were enforced along the road up to the Frederick Street junction and remained in place until yesterday afternoon.

The crash involved a Vauxhall Corsa, a Mercedes Sprinter van and a tractor outside the Bannatyne Health Club.

The girls, aged 12 and 13, were taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and the Bristol Children’s Hospital respectively where they remain.They were both in the Vauxhall Corsa along with a 49-year-old man, who was also hospitalised but with minor injuries.

The 53-year-old man who driving the van was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the 33-year-old male driver of the tractor has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A spokeswoman for the Ambulance Service confirmed that the three male casualties were taken to the Royal Gwent.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 101 quoting log number 455 6/12/16.”
