TWO petrified cats were found on the doorstep of a vets surgery in Newport yesterday.

Budget Vets staff members turned up for work on Monday morning and found two cats abandoned in a box on the doorstep of their surgery in Malpas Road, in Newport .

It is unclear when the cats were left there, with the building being closed since Saturday afternoon.

“The adult cat is a male who we think is a couple of years old and the kitten is a seven-month male,” said Josie McGarry, the branch’s manager.

“Both appear to be in good health although they were petrified and were wet and cold when we found them.

“We have had animals left on our doorstep before but, to leave these two out in this weather for goodness knows how long, it is awful.

“It has shocked the team. We have taken them in, dried them off, fed them and are leaving them alone to settle down.

“They will stay here for a few days to see if we can find their owner before contacting the Cat Protection League.”
