Bishop Richard writes: One of the better-known parts of the Nativity story is when Mary and Joseph cannot find room at the local inn and end up sleeping rough in a stable.
The irony, of course, is that God himself, as the baby Jesus, is not made welcome by his own creation. Because of this, God has a special place for those who are homeless and rejected.
Many of the churches share that concern and, during this Christmas time, will be providing overnight accommodation in the church buildings through the Night Shelter programme in Newport. If you see anyone homeless, please let them know of this project so they can come in out of the cold. While it does not solve the real issues behind homelessness, it is a start....
On behalf of the Anglican churches, I hope you have a really good and blessed Christmas and give thanks for those who show the love of God by providing a genuine and practical welcome to those in need.
