TOM Prydie says Newport Gwent Dragons can't naively play gung-ho rugby in their quest for a vital bonus point against Enisei-STM at Rodney Parade this evening.

The Dragons need a five-point haul from tonight's clash with the Russians (kick-off 7.30pm) to ensure that they will definitely head to group leaders Brive next weekend with a chance of playing knockout European Challenge Cup rugby for the third season on the spin.

Kingsley Jones' side have to score at least four tries but are taking nothing for granted against an Enisei side that gave them a 38-18 hammering in Krasnodar in October.

Prydie says the Dragons will adopt a similar approach to the one that saw them romp to victory in their Pool Three opener against Brive, when four of their five tries came in the final quarter.

"You just start the game with the intention of winning and the score builds itself," said the winger. "When it does start building and you are a bit more secure then you can start looking for the bonus point.

"It would be naïve of us to go out there thinking we are going to score four tries straight away. We obviously want a bonus point but won't try to get too much, too early.

"I am sure we will get it if we play well, against Brive it came in the last 20 minutes and it will be a similar thing tonight."

"We are taking it week by week and this game is huge for us," he continued. "If we get the result it's a big game out in Brive when it would be all to play for."

The Dragons are on an eight-game winning run at Rodney Parade in the Challenge Cup while Enisei have never won away from home in the tournament.

The Russians have an average margin of defeat of 35 points on their travels but events at Trud Stadium mean there is no danger of their hosts taking them lightly.

The Dragons failed to cope with Enisei's power game and shipped five close-range tries on a humbling afternoon.

"We did respect them and Kingsley (Jones, head coach and former boss of the Russia national team) knows a lot about them, so we knew what we were in for but just didn't turn up," said Prydie, who was a travelling reserve in Krasnodar.

"It's obviously a tough place to go with long travel and a different environment but that was no excuse.

"We know what to expect from Enisei. They have a massive pack and a big pick-and-go game so it's about us playing sensibly and playing in the right areas.

"They are big, big men and I think five of their pack are 130kgs but our team is big enough and skilful enough to get the result."

Brive, who have a five-point advantage, entertain Worcester tomorrow afternoon.
