A NEW video appeal for fresh information over a death in Newport earlier this week has been launched.

Gwent Police have published the video through their Facebook page regarding the death of 41 year old Jan Jedrzejewski on Keene Street in the city at around 10.50pm on Thursday 12th January.

In the video, one of the lead officers in the case, Superintendent Glyn Fernquest reveals details of Mr Jedrzejewski's final movements and asks for help from a witness seen on a bike at the time.

Supt Glyn Fernquest said: "He was a distinctive man, 6ft 2in (187cm), with a stocky build and he was wearing a hi-vis, fluorescent jacket.

"We're particularly interested in speaking to a man seen riding a bike along Cromwell Road, seen opposite the entrance to Keene Street at the time of the incident.

"The man was wearing a dark, possibly black, jacket, blue jeans and a grey or light coloured rucksack on his back. If this is you, please be assured you are not in any trouble. We just need to speak to you. You hold vital information to this inquiry."

Mr Jedrzejewski was last seen in Ladbrokes in Pill at about 7.45pm on Thursday, before he left to walk towards Cromwell Road.

Supt Fernquest states that officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw him between 8pm and 10.10pm, 'even if you think it is insignificant'.

He also thanks the local community for their support over the last couple of days and people that have made officers cups of tea while on duty.

Two men aged 18 and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on Friday, with a 43-year-old man arrested on Saturday - all on suspicion of murder.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to a girl in her late teens or early 20's who was seen walking into Keene Street at the time of the incident. She is described as wearing a cream or light coloured long sleeved top or jacket and light blue skinny jeans. She is possibly Afro-Caribbean and has dark hair which appeared to be tied in a ponytail.

In addition, a silver 4 door hatchback car was seen turning into Keene Street just after the incident at around 10.58pm. If you were the driver or in the car as a passenger and saw anything at all that could help, please contact us.

Superintendent Glyn Fernquest added: “If this is you then please get in touch, as you may hold vital evidence that can help us with our investigation – please be reassured that you are not in any trouble.

“I can also confirm that the cordon in the area has now been lifted and I’d like to thank the local community for their patience. I’d like to say a particular thanks to the local residents who have supported officers at the scene on what was a very cold January day. Your kindness did not go unnoticed by the officers themselves and myself as Superintendent for the area.”
