UPDATE: 2.40pm

Gwent Police have confirmed there was a robbery at the shop on Corporation Road this morning.

They were called at around 9.20am today following the incident which police said "left victim was unhurt but was understandably left shaken".

Police are looking for a man described as white and wearing a navy/black wet look coat and grey jogging bottoms.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call 101 quoting log: 92 18/01/17.

Detective Constable Gareth Small who is investigating the case said: "These types of incidents are very rare in Gwent, nevertheless, we are determined to bring those who commit these serious crimes to justice.

"This incident was distressing for the victim and we are relentlessly working to find who is responsible. If you were in the area at the time and saw anything no matter how small please come forward. We are still in the early stages of our investigation and our enquires are on-going."

There are reports that a robbery took place in the shop earlier this morning.

Two police cars , one van and three police officers are at the scene.

Police have sealed off a shop on Corporation Road this morning.

Officers have been seen investigating at the Apex shop on the corner of Walsall Street and Corporation Road where a cordon has been placed.
