A FOOD delivery service has announced it is headed to Newport, creating at least 20 jobs and enabling families to enjoy restaurant cooked meals from the comfort of their homes.

Deliveroo is planning to roll out its online food delivery service to around 20 restaurants in the city next month, with Meat Bar and Grill in Clytha Park Road becoming the first to sign up to the service, on Wednesday.

Launched in 2013 by economic analyst Will Shu and software developer Greg Orlowski, the business delivers fresh cooked food from restaurants to customers within 30 minutes.

The company is looking for riders to deliver the food, be it by bicycle, scooter or motorbike.

Caroline Hazlehurst, general manager at Deliveroo, said: “We’ve seen a huge demand for Deliveroo in Newport since we launched in Cardiff and Swansea last year, and we’re excited to be launching our third city in Wales.

“We’re feeling very positive about the creation of new jobs for local people.

“The team is looking for people with passion, drive and great customer service, who are seeking the added benefit of flexible hours amongst other perks.”

It is understood that the company is looking to deliver food from 10 independent and 10 national restaurants in the city.

Dave Roberts, co-owner at Meat Bar and Grill, said: “We are delighted to be invited and to be on board.

“The service will create jobs, help customers and businesses so it is a positive for the city.”

Deliveroo will be dropping leaflets to around 18,000 houses in the next few days to let people know about the new service.

Customers will be able to schedule orders via the Deliveroo app up to one day in advance, according to the firm.
