GWENT will be holding special services to mark Holocaust Memorial Day this Friday.

The annual event is to pay respect and remember the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Sudan.

The theme for this year’s annual event is “How can life go on?” and people from across the country are asked to think about “what happens after genocide and of your responsibilities in the wake of such a crime”.

Newport City Council is hosting the Holocaust Memorial Day in the city, with a special service at Newport Cathedral taking place on Friday, January 27, at 11am.

Pupils from Caerleon Comprehensive will lead the singing and will deliver a reading, as will pupils from Rougemont School.

Joseph’s RC High School pupils will lead the prayers and pupils from Langstone Primary School will lead the candle procession through the cathedral.

Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble will be providing the music for the whole service.

Torfaen County Borough Council, which is working with St Cadoc’s Church, Pontypool and schools, will be hosting a service at St Cadoc’s Church Trevethin, Pontypool, on Friday, January 27, at 4pm.

Caldicot will also be hosting the annual service at Caldicot Community Hub, Woodstock Way, at 7pm.
