THE Ethiopian ambassador to the UK was welcomed to Newport this week.
Hailemichael Abera visited the city before meeting Carwyn Jones in Cardiff.
The visit was organised by Newport City Council ward member for Pill Councillor Omar Ali in an effort to create greater links between Wales and the African nation.
Cllr Ali said: “The visit was a great success and I hope this will lead to improving links between our two countries in the future.”
Newport AMs John Griffiths and Jayne Bryant welcomed Mr Abera at the Senedd.
Mr Griffiths said: “I hope the visit will lead to a strengthened relationship and greater business understanding.”
