A TALENTED artist from north Wiltshire is preparing to put his work on show in his first exhibition, after almost half a century of painting.

Colin Gilbert, 82, was one of the first members of the Malmesbury Art Society and has decided to take on the challenge of curating his own exhibition, showcasing exclusively his own works of art.

The acrylic artist from Chelworth, Malmesbury, says he paints every day and is excited at the prospect of hosting his own exhibition.

“I’ve always got something on my easel, always something on the go,” he said.

“Drawing was something I didn’t have to try hard at while at school, so it’s always been a hobby of mine.

“Last year someone at the art society asked if I fancied hanging a few pictures in an exhibition.

“I declined, as I thought I’d give it a go myself.”

Colin will be exhibiting 38 originals pieces at the exhibition in Malmesbury Town Hall.

They range from landscapes, to portraits and nudes.

Having sold more than 100 pieces of art over the years, Colin will be hoping to pick up a couple of sales.

“It’s virtually everything I’ve got in the house that I’ve done,” he said.

“I’ll be very happy if I sold three of four – it would be good for the ego.”

Residents will be able to view Colin’s exhibition at Malmesbury Town Hall from February 20 until March 6.
