Puppets of former Labour leader Lord Neil Kinnock and his wife Baroness Glenys Kinnock have sold at auction.

The Spitting Image puppets of Lord Kinnock, the former Islwyn MP and Labour leader, and Baroness Kinnock, a former Member of the European Parliament, were being auctioned by Rogers Jones and Co in Cardiff.

According to the auction house, there was a huge amount of interest in the items that were made for the show by Roger Law and Peter Fluck.

The final bidding came down to four strong bidders.

The winning bid was £3,400 for the latex figures that featured in the satirical ITV show which ran for 12 years until 1996.

They had expected to sell for between £2,000 and £3,000.

Auctioneer Ben Rogers Jones said: “We had the puppets sat in chairs and they were the first thing people saw when they came in, so they caused a few chortles.

“It was a good talking point as they are quite iconic. It’s very unusual to get something like this at an auction.”
