A MAN is in a critical condition following a crash in Newport’s Chepstow Road.

The 47-year-old from the Newport area was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital following an incident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at just before 7.35pm on Monday, February 20, close to the police station.

A spokesman for Gwent Police has confirmed that the man is currently in intensive care, with his condition deemed to be critical.

The road was closed for a time on Monday night, while the emergency services were at the scene, but it has fully re-opened with no diversions in place.

Gwent Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following the crash.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have seen the movements of the pedestrian leading up to the crash.
