THE negative assault on our National Health Service by the media and politicians continues unabated.
I refer to the latest revelation that health boards in England will post a three billion deficit this year.
That figure pales into insignificance when set alongside fifty billion + for HS 2 and a hundred billion for the renewal of Trident.
Add the billions we spend in foreign aid then this deficit is barely small change in the scheme of things.
Lets ignore the fact that the NHS cares for the nation; that the nursing staff have not received a pay rise in real terms for eight years; along with the destruction of social welfare by closing council care homes; farming out the former beneficiaries to private enterprise who pay their staff peanuts.
Lets not mention the thousands of elderly patients that are marooned in hospital beds because of this inadequate funding regime that has turned our medical staff from carers to unpaid social workers.
I was born in 1948 and I owe my life to this organisation.
The only targets that interests me is the protection of this world class service, its staff and its users.
