HUNDREDS of runners braved the rain for the annual St David’s Hospice Pontypool 10k Home Run this morning.

The route route traveled from Pontypool Park to Mamhillad and back along the Monmouthshire to Brecon canal towpath.

Race organisers had to close registration after they took on 700 runners ahead of the event.

Numbers are limited due to the run not being a closed road event, as well as the canal pathway and Pontypool Park being open to the general public.

The event began at 8.45am in the park with entertainment provided by Daryll Barnby Entertainments.

The first to cross the finish line was Newport Harriers runner Craig Williams who finished in 34 minutes 57 seconds. Last year's winner Adrien Pilat, a member of CDF Runners, was second in a time of 36 minutes 26 seconds and Richard Jackson-Hookins of the Penarth and Dinas Runners was third.

The first woman to cross the line was Nicola Gething from the Parc Bryn Bach Running Club who finished in 41 minutes and 49 seconds.

590 runners crossed the finish line and received a medal. Times are now available on the Full On Sport website.
