THERE are only a few days left to enter our Gwent’s Best Mum competition.

Nominations have been pouring in and we have been finding out about amazing mothers from across the region. They are in with the chance of winning a champagne afternoon tea for four at the Celtic Manor Resort.

To enter just let us know why your mum deserves to be crowned Gwent’s Best Mum.

You just need to send us a photo of you together and tell us - in up to 200 words - why your mum is the best around.

We’ll feature the best entries on our website and in the paper ahead of Mother’s Day on March 26.

The prize is one that every Mum will love - a champagne afternoon tea for four people at the five-star Celtic Manor Resort.

Enjoy a glass of bubbly on arrival before tucking in to a feast of finger sandwiches, delicious hand-made cakes and tarts, and freshly baked raisin scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, all accompanied by a selection of speciality teas or coffee.

You have until Monday March 20, at 5pm, to enter.

A small team of Argus editorial staff will then pick a winner.

Last year's competition was won by Paula Clarke, of West Road, Usk.

She was nominated by her daughter, Joanne Clare, who said she “held the family together through some very tough times”.

In 2004, the Mrs Clarke lost her son, aged just 21, after a long battle with brain cancer.

During his treatment Mrs Clarke and her son had to live in Liverpool as he underwent “gruelling” radiotherapy.

When Jonathan died, his father, retired police officer, “fell apart” having a nervous breakdown and "chain smoking his way into a heart attack."

Ms Clare credited her Monmouthshire council planner mother with “being so strong through it all and getting the family back on track”.

“I think she is such a selfless and brave person and does a lot for other people and it’s about time she gets some recognition," she added at the time.
