A SONGWRITER from Newport hopes to “make his mark” on the music industry after winning a national radio station-hosted contest.

Kieran Marsh, aged 16, of Maesglas, received the prize by impressing judges at the Spotlight with SSE competition ran by Capital FM.

In the final at the SSE SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff, he was crowned as the “strongest act”.

He will now write, record and release a single with talent agency, The Famous Company.

When told live on Capital South Wales that he had won, Kieran was shocked.

Speaking on air, he said: “This is absolutely unbelievable. I never in a million years thought that I would win. I’m so excited to hit the recording studio and get the chance to make my mark on the music industry.

“This could be the break I have been dreaming of.”
