THE final spring conference to be held by a Welsh political party before May’s local government elections will see Labour MPs, AMs, councillors and supporters come together to map out the organisation’s future this weekend.

The event at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru will kick off today with a women’s networking event and reception, before the full business of the conference begins tomorrow.

First minister Carwyn Jones and head of the national party Jeremy Corbyn will give keynote speeches on Saturday, while Newport City Council leader councillor Debbie Wilcox will speak on the forthcoming local government elections.

Former Torfaen County Borough Council leader cllr Bob Wellington will also speak on behalf of the Welsh Local Government Association, while Blaenau Gwent AM Alun Davies will talk about plans for education in Wales in his capacity as minister for lifelong learning and the Welsh language.

Other speakers will include Wales MEP Derek Vaughan, who will speak on the impending Brexit, as well as the Welsh Government’s secretary for local government Mark Drakeford and Ken Skates, who is responsible for economy and the infrastructure.

Skills and science minister Julie James, leader of the house Jane Hutt, communities secretary Carl Sargeant and his counterpart for the environment and rural affairs Lesley Griffiths will also speak on Saturday.

Sunday will feature a keynote address by shadow Welsh secretary Christine Rees as well as speech by the Welsh Government’s social services and public health minister Rebecca Evans and a session on gender equality, as well as workshops for members on issues such as the Valley’s Taskforce and May’s elections.
